Spongebob project

The client wanted a Spongebob customs with 8 characters throughout the piece. I took things a step further with trying to execute a vision I had for a video that fit the theme of the sneaker. I wanted to use that video as a marketing video to promote my sneaker business and showcase my talent.

The first step is to always have a consultation with the client to figure out what their needs are first like their timeline, price, and the vision. The creative problem I had to solve was how do I work in 8 characters in an interesting way with an eye popping design. Also, how can I use to shoe to elevated the design.

Concept stage

Custom process

Moving into the next phase is doing the actual work on the sneakers down to prepping the surface, removing the nike swooshes, base coats, freehand drawing the characters and the backgrounds, etc. Working on sneakers requires patience and an extreme level of attention to detail especially when it comes to working through the prepping process which is the most important part of any custom.

Storyboard for video

Once the sneaker was complete I decided to take things a step further with the video. Since I have never done anything like this I had to '“storyboard” this out. The pictures to the left was how I envisioned the feel of the video. Which, for me, was extremely important.

Video Production

The next phase was figuring out how to execute this vision. What media and softwares would I use. I played around with After Effects at first trying to rotoscope the sneakers and try to composite in the shoes but I didn’t like it because I felt like I couldn’t have the control I needed. I eventually learned photogrammetry to put the 3D model of the shoes in Blender and learn how to build out a scene along with animating it. Once the animation was complete I worked on sound design and any extra special effects to bring the piece together.
